Ethereal clouds of dust and gas are illuminated by stars in the giant elliptical galaxy Centaurus A, captured in unprecedented detail by the Hubble space telescope. The photograph was taken with Hubble’s most sophisticated instrument, the Wide Field Camera 3. It combines images from multiple wavelengths to reveal a dusty region of the galaxy. TFGFW - I want to see this up close and personal …..

Two types of fly fringe (braid) adorn this sack-back gown of about 1770, one as a trim, the other as a tassel. White silk knotted into a twisted cord, with tufts of green and pink silk comprises the fringe edging the ruffles of the sleeve and front appliqué. The gown is further embellished with long tassels of loosely knotted coloured silks. The tassels bear coils of coloured silks, which imitate the shape and colour of small posies.
The gown is made of ivory silk figured with stripes and floral stripes and brocaded with floral sprays in yellow, blue, green and shades of pink. The degree to which the colours of the fringes complement each other and the gown suggests that they may have been made to match.
